The destruction of Asgard was a cataclysmic event that resulted in the destruction of Asgard and the death of 9,719 Asgardians. It was the culmination of Ragnarok, a prophecy that foretold of Asgard's demise.

The destruction of Asgard was brought about by Surtur, who was unleashed upon Asgard following Hela's takeover of the royal throne of Asgard. Using the Eternal Flame, Loki was able to bring Surtur to Asgard.

History[edit | edit source]

The death of Odin resulted in Hela escaping from Hel. Hela proceeded to take over the throne of Asgard and intended to lay waste to the Nine Realms.

Facing no other choice, Thor told Loki to bring Surtur to Asgard using the Eternal Flame from Odin's vault. Loki complied, and Surtur erupted from the Royal Palace of Valaskjalf. Wielding the Twilight Sword, Surtur destroyed the Royal Palace and plunged his sword into Hela.

As Surtur proceeded to destroy Asgard, the remaining Asgardians escaped on the Statesman.

Aftermath[edit | edit source]

The destruction of Asgard claimed the lives of 9,719 Asgardians. The remaining Asgardians headed to Earth, although the Statesman was intercepted by Thanos, resulting in the death of half of the Asgardian population and the retrieval of the Space Stone by Thanos.
