Erik Selvig is a Norwegian astrophysicist and author. Selvig worked as a Professor of Theoretical Astrophysics at Culver University until 2012, when he was recruited by S.H.I.E.L.D. to spearhead a revival of Project P.E.G.A.S.U.S..

In 2010, Selvig traveled to New Mexico with Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis to research an anomaly in Puente Antiguo, eventually finding Thor, who was banished to Earth. During the Chitauri invasion, Selvig was brainwashed by Loki and opened a wormhole from space to New York, beginning a large-scale battle in the city. Loki's brainwashing affected Selvig's brain chemistry, and he was arrested for public nudity at Stonehenge.

Following his mental breakdown at Stonehenge, Selvig would eventually find work as a professor at the University of London. In 2015, Selvig was hired by the Avengers and relocated to the Avengers Compound in New York.
