Production[edit | edit source]

Rumors about a Moon Knight TV series surfaced in 2015, where it was reported that Moon Knight was expected to appear in a Netflix show prior to appearing in a separate series, similar to the character Punisher,[1] James Gunn, director of Guardians of the Galaxy and Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, pitched the idea of a Moon Knight movie to Marvel, but was reportedly too busy to direct it.[2]

Official discussions on the production of a Moon Knight TV series began in April 2018, when Kevin Feige announced Moon Knight would be a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[3] On August 23, 2019, at the D23 conference, Feige announced that development on a Moon Knight TV series had begun. The series was given the title Moon Knight, and in November, it was reported Jeremy Slater had become involved with the project as its executive producer and head writer. Egyptian director Mohamed Diab was also announced to direct the first four episodes and serve as an executive producer. Diab set out to break the Orientalist stereotype of Egypt; he wanted to portray Egypt as a "normal place". Director duo Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead also signed onto the project as directors of the last two episodes.

"It's interesting you bring up Moon Knight because that's not actually being developed for film. The heroic hot rumor is that Moon Knight is actually being developed for Netflix since he is their version of Bruce Wayne. Like the way they're backdoor piloting Punisher, making an appearance in Daredevil Season 2, if it works out, boom. Same thing with Moon Knight."**
