The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a media franchise and shared universe created by Marvel Studios. Grossing over $27 billion, it is the highest grossing film franchise of all time.^[1] The highest grossing film in the franchise, Avengers: Endgame, is the second highest grossing film of all time.^[2]

By 2005, Marvel Entertainment began to produce various films based on Marvel Comics characters. The films were intended to be distributed by Paramount Pictures.
