In 2010, Hammer was selected to testify in a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing regarding Tony Stark's use of the Iron Man suit. Hammer stated his opposition to the Iron Man suit, and suggested it be turned over to the United States government for national security interests. During the hearing, Stark displayed footage of Hammer Industries' failed attempt at recreating the Iron Man suit, injuring a pilot in the process. The incident severely damaged Hammer Industries' reputation, and the Armed Forces cancelled their military contract with them.

During the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix, Stark was attacked by Ivan Vanko. Vanko was arrested and taken to a French prison, although he was later broken out by Hammer, who told Vanko to build a mechanical suit superior to Stark's. Vanko, seeking to kill Stark himself, built a series of remote-control drones. Hammer presented the Hammer drones at the Stark Expo as a replacement for the Armed Forces. During the presentation, Vanko took control of the drones and commanded them to attack Stark. As a result of aiding Vanko in the attack, Hammer was arrested and imprisoned at Seagate Penitentiary.

Black markets dealings[edit | edit source]

Following Hammer's arrest, Hammer Industries entered the private sector, selling weapons to Diamondback.
