Taneleer Tivan is a collector and the head of Tivan Group. Operating on Knowhere, Tivan's vast collection of various species and fauna throughout the galaxy gave him the moniker of the Collector.

History[edit | edit source]

Early history[edit | edit source]

Taneleer Tivan was born shortly after the creation of the universe, along with his brother, the Grandmaster. Tivan founded the Tivan Group and, over the course of hundreds of years, Tivan would grow Tivan Group into an intergalactic conglomerate.

Locating the Infinity Stones[edit | edit source]

The following takes place during Thor: The Dark World.
The following takes place during Guardians of the Galaxy.

In 2013, following the Battle of Greenwich, Sif and Volstagg traveled to Knowhere. Tivan negotiated with Sif and Volstagg for the Aether, and sought out the other five Infinity Stones to add to his collection.

Tivan would enlist Gamora in finding the Power Stone and offered her four billion units to betray Thanos.[1] Gamora successfully brought the Power Stone, encased within the Orb, to Tivan. While Tivan was gathering the units to give to the Guardians of the Galaxy, Tivan's assistant, Carina, rushed towards the Power Stone, destroying much of Tivan's collection and killing her in the process.

Ambush in Knowhere[edit | edit source]

The following takes place during Avengers: Infinity War.

In 2018, during the Infinity War, Thanos traveled to Knowhere with the Power Stone and Space Stone. Thanos proceeded to lay waste to the Collector's museum and stole the Aether from Tivan. An illusion of Tivan was created to trick Gamora into approaching Thanos.

Alternate versions[edit | edit source]

In an alternate universe, having filled the power vacuum created when Thanos gave up his conquest of the Infinity Stones, Tivan became a powerful kingpin throughout the galaxy. This version of Tivan was ultimately defeated by Star-Lord.
