The Chitauri mothership was a Chitauri command center.[1] It was used during the Chitauri invasion to control the Chitauri during the battle of New York; during the battle, Iron Man directed a nuclear missile towards the ship, ending the battle.

The Chitauri used a mothership for most operations.
In 2012, the Chitauri invaded Earth, attacking New York under Loki's orders. The World Security Council advised S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury to launch a nuclear missile at New York. The council deployed two F-35s with a nuclear payload from the Helicarrier. Fury was able to down one of them, while the other headed towards New York. Fury instructed Iron Man to intercept the missile; he flew the missile into a wormhole above New York leading to the mothership, destroying it and ending the battle.
