Phillip J. "Phil" Coulson was a highly decorated S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and its former director.
During the attack on the Helicarrier, Coulson was killed[1] by Loki, in turn forming the Avengers. Under the direction of Nick Fury, Coulson was resurrected.
