Rodriguez is the former vice president of the United States, under the Ellis administration in 2012.
In 2012, Rodriguez became involved in Aldrich Killian's War when Aldrich Killian struck a deal with Rodriguez: Killian would save Rodriguez' daughter through the Extremis program if the United States government didn't intervene in Advanced Idea Mechanics' activities.

Ellis administration[edit | edit source]
Rodriguez was elected vice president of the United States in 2012, with Matthew Ellis as president.
Aldrich Killian's War[edit | edit source]
In 2012, Aldrich Killian approached Rodriguez and allowed his daughter to undergo the Extremis program if the United States government didn't intervene in the faux terrorist attacks perpetuated by the Mandarin, secretly the failures of the Extremis program. Rodriguez agreed to the terms of the deal and aided Advanced Idea Mechanics, Killian's company and a front for the Extremis program, in overthrowing the United States, including hijacking Ellis' phone and providing Ellis' location at all times.
Tony Stark and James Rhodes attempted to contact Rodriguez to inform him of a plan to kidnap Ellis. Rodriguez told the men that he would have planes in the air shortly, but dissimulated the plan to the Air Force, allowing Eric Savin to infiltrate Air Force One and kidnap Ellis.
Rodriguez' tergiversation would go on to result in his impeachment and later arrest. Ellis would not be reelected in 2016, being replaced by Donald Trump.[1]

Rodriguez, based on his actions during Aldrich Killian's War, values his personal interests over the lives of other people, and he folds to authority.
