Riri Williams is an inventor.
In 2024, Williams attended the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. There, she designed a vibranium detector, which was later used by the CIA. Williams' vibranium detector put her at odds with the Talokanil, an aquatic humanoid race. The FBI and the Talokanil subsequently attempted to apprehend Williams. Williams' connections to Wakanda escalated tensions between the Talokanil and the Wakandans, beginning the Talokanil-Wakandan War.
