The ambush in Odessa was a skirmish in Odessa, Ukraine, when then-S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Natasha Romanoff was tasked with escorting a nuclear engineer in Iran to safety. However, the Winter Soldier intercepted the engineer, assassinating him in the process.
The ambush[edit | edit source]
In 2009, Natasha Romanoff, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent at the time, was tasked with escorting a nuclear engineer in Iran to safety. Romanoff successfully completed the mission and reached the rendezvous point, although Romanoff was intercepted in Odessa, Ukraine by the Winter Soldier, who blew out Romanoff's tires and sent her and the nuclear engineer down a cliff.
Romanoff was able to pull the engineer out of the wrecked car, although the Winter Soldier had shot the engineer in the head. The bullet also hit Romanoff in the abdomen, and the Winter Soldier drove off.
Aftermath[edit | edit source]
Romanoff would recount the encounter to Steve Rogers in 2014, following the former's encounter with the Winter Soldier. The encounter would lead Romanoff to attempt to hunt down the Winter Soldier, although her efforts were futile.
